Professor, Azim Premji University


Shashi Nair has been teaching at the Azim Premji University since 2012. His interests include  the development of a strong public school education system in India. He is deeply interested in the diagnosis, design and strengthening of school education systems. Currently, he is engaged in the  exploration and dissemination of systemic approaches to strengthen the system. Shashi is committed to ensuring vigorous discussions across critical stakeholders in the country on the merits of tapping into bodies of knowledge on educational change at the level of individuals, institutions and the system. 

Before he joined the Azim Premji University, Shashi was the Head of the Education Leadership and Management Team at the Azim Premji Foundation. He was responsible for conceptualising an education systems, leadership and governance function in the Foundation. Before coming into the social sector Shashi worked for several years in the corporate sector in research, design and training.

Shashi is a Civil Engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and has a MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore with a specialisation in Operations Research. Shashi has designed and facilitated several workshops on Educational Leadership and Management, and Change. He teaches Educational Change, School Systems Analysis, and Programme Design and Evaluation in Education at the Azim Premji University.
