Priyanka grew up in a safe and protected environment with all her needs fulfilled and her parents and teachers making sure that she is not just a successful student but a person of character. However, the turning point in her life came during her college days, when she came face to face with the reality of educational inequity in our country. She was inspired by her brother who was involved with Teach For India and she too joined them as a Fellow in 2011, with the resolve of eradicating this problem from society.

The Fellowship turned out to be a great learning experience for her as she assumed the responsibility of a teacher for 32 nine-year-old children, almost becoming their mother. There were a lot of challenges in front of her and in the next two years, she pushed her own boundaries of leadership as she researched strong teaching practices to reach out to every single student in the class. She involved the parents too through daily community visits, PTMs and motivated them to become equal partners in their child’s learning. She shared the best practices with the rest of the teachers and started making small but lasting changes in the entire school ecosystem.

She continued this journey and as a Program Manager, has coached more than 85 teachers and helped them undergo a personal transformation from college graduates to successful leaders. Through all her experiences, she has strongly realized the role of collaboration and deliberate effort in bringing about change.
