Ravi was born in West Bengal and brought up in Bihar during the infamous periods of social and political turmoil. His first contact with cross-cultural impact when he was studying for his BAMS degree in a medical college in Uttar Pradesh. His journey from there to the development sector was established gradually.
When he started practicing as a physician, his interest in community development got stronger. He came across a very diverse category of patients mostly from nearby villages, with very poor health education. He realized that the real cause of their health issues lies at the community level. He got inspiration to go deeper into their problems and explore the solutions which are effective over a longer term. He, thus, went ahead to do his Masters in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai.
Social work transformed him from a doctor into a development professional. His two years of work in Bihar where he was leading a team of grass-root workers (nurses, mentors, block managers, field facilitators and supervisors), enabled him to work with health and ICDS officials over issues of RMNCH+A, family planning and nutrition. Out of his experience, he has learnt that a problem is an outcome of events which are diverse, multi-sectoral and overlapping.
