Program Leader, Kavialya Education Foundation

Education – M.A. Education
City – Mumbai

Maya comes with total 7 years of experience spanning across industries but one thing that underlies all her endeavors is her conscientiousness. Although she did start her career by working with corporates and was involved in handling stakeholders, relationship management and team building, but she soon realized her calling for the development space.

She started with some volunteering initiatives with organizations such as Goonj, TFI and ultimately joined the M.A. Education program at Azim Premji University to equip herself better to contribute meaningfully in this sector. This program introduced her to the broad framework of the public education system as it exists in India today, throwing light on the educational programs and policies, and the hierarchy of the educational functionaries present in the system, the bureaucracy involved, and the issues in implementing the Right to Education Act (RTE). She specialized in the School Organization, Leadership and Management (SOLM) track in her second year at APU, as it dealt with the complete gamut of actors such as schools as organizations (micro-level), their support systems and overall systems of governance (macro-level).

After graduating from APU, she joined Kaivalya Education Foundation as a Program Leader for Thane operations. Here, she is involved with building the leadership capabilities of head masters/senior teachers of 29 Thane Municipal Corporation schools along with 6 other Gandhi Fellows, in order to make a positive impact on the student learning outcomes in these schools.
