Pavitra was initially drawn towards the Development sector, surprisingly due to animals instead of humans. An experience of watching the ill-treatment of dairy animals at the age of six made her want to work for their betterment. She has been involved in fostering and caring for street animals ever since. She did her Bachelors and Masters in Economics, interned with the National Institute of Urban Affairs which gave her insights on how Government organisations function and assisted her during her engagement with FIAPO where she worked on the Government and Policy front for the better management of dairy animals in India. Her work enabled her to increase her skills in community engagement through conducting awareness programmes for dairy farmers along with the State Governments. Her dissertation on Gender Inequality from a Transgender perspective increased her will to work in social sector.
