About the Fellowship

Philanthropy has long been considered one of the enablers for creating an equitable and just society for all. The role of philanthropy has been to generate fresh ideas and test new ways of promoting equity, efficiency, and humaneness in social programs. To further explore philanthropy’s role in building an equitable, inclusive and just society for all, ISDM-CPID launched a research fellowship in 2022.

So far, we have mentored one cohort of research fellows.

You can know more about our fellows here.

This is a call for interested researchers and scholars to apply for the second cohort of the CPID research fellowship.

Philanthropy that is centered around the needs of the community, involves and engages with the community and is led by the community can be more effective and sustainable. Community philanthropy has great potential for making development inclusive, particularly because it is socially embedded, is cognizant to local needs and is driven by community knowledge often using local resources. It involves collaborative partnerships among diverse stakeholders to create long-term, sustainable impact. Hence, this year, the centre has decided to focus on studying the various facets of community philanthropy.

About the Program

Beginning October 2023, a cohort of 5 fellows will be spending 12 months researching a topic related to community philanthropy and its practices, challenges, motivations, and innovation of new models.

  • This is a part-time program in which the fellows will be visiting the ISDM campus at least twice during the duration of the Fellowship.
  • Fellows will meet virtually every quarter, share their research, receive peer feedback from subject experts and renowned academicians.
  • At the end of the Fellowship period, fellows are required to submit a working paper (10,000-15,000 words) on their research project/findings, which would be published as a working paper by ISDM under Creative Commons Licensing 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). The copyright of the working paper published under CCL 4.0 will be held by the author, and ISDM.
  • At the end of the Fellowship period, a research showcase will be conducted, during which fellows will present their work and participate in a panel discussion, both of which will be open to ISDM stakeholders.
  • Fellows are required to acknowledge CPID affiliation in any publication and/or presentation related to the work done during the Fellowship.
  • Fellowship alumni are invited and encouraged to attend the quarterly meetings and the annual CPID research showcase.
  • The total fellowship amount for 12 months will be INR 3 lakhs.
