This paper critically examines the global media influence of George Soros's philanthropic foundations, particularly his Open Society Institute. Despite distributing substantial funds to ostensibly progressive causes, Soros's involvement in creating and sustaining 'independent' media outlets remains largely unexamined by communications researchers, unlike other media moguls. The study delineates the contours of Soros's vast yet under-documented impact, arguing that while these liberal funders may have noble intentions, their philanthropy ultimately serves to sustain capitalism. It encourages critical scholars to consider more seriously how alternative, democratic media systems can be established and maintained outside such influences.
