Profile: Ajit retired in 2023 as Chief Strategy Officer at Tata Steel Foundation (TSF). He came to TSF from Tata Sons, where he headed the community services function for the Tata group (including CSR, disaster response, volunteering and business and human rights) from 2014 to 2022.

Ajit began his career with an NGO in western Rajasthan. He has since worked on social development and disaster response across the country. His main interests are in the delivery of basic services to communities who are most difficult to reach - the poorest, the most marginalised, the peripatetic, and those in remote locations.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Shriram College of Commerce; Master’s in Rural Management from the Institute of Rural Management (IRMA); Chevening Gurukul Scholar (2001), London School of Economics, studying leadership and development; Attended the core (2003) and advanced (2006) courses of the World Bank’s International Program for Development Evaluation Training, Ottawa, Canada
