A. K. Shiva Kumar is a renowned development economist, policy advisor, and academic known for his contributions to human development, public policy, and social sector reforms in India. He has been closely associated with leading academic and policy institutions and has played a key role in shaping discourse around education, health, social protection, and inclusive development. His work spans research, teaching, and advisory roles, influencing both national and global development agendas.

He has served as a Senior Advisor to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), contributing to Human Development Reports and policy initiatives focused on poverty reduction and human development. Over the years, he has also been actively involved with government advisory bodies and national commissions, helping design and strengthen policies aimed at improving equity and human capabilities.
