Soma is a development studies researcher specialising in impact evaluation methodologies. Her work focuses on empirical research examining the linkages between gender, education, and empowerment.

Prior to moving into development research, she worked as a journalist covering development issues and held senior editorial positions at Open, The Hindustan Times, The Indian Express, Outlook, and The Times of India. She teaches the course Impact Evaluation (Qualitative Methodologies).
